We leave Hanoi for Highway 4 on our way to Cao Bang province and the lime stone plateau of Quang Nguyen. Along the way we can stop at famous battle fields in the Viet Minh’s war against the French in the 1950’s. We take time to explore back-roads and tracks along the border with China, stopping for a picnic lunch before heading to Pac Bo and Ho Chi Minh’s cave.

Then we head to the Ba Be Lake national Park to stay with a local family and their house on stilts. We take time to go on a boat cruise on the clear wayters of the lake and have for a swim and lunch on-board the boat. Day five we get back in the jeeps and make our way to Hanoi.
